(Irish Mathematics Teachers’ Association)

Membership

The Irish Mathematics Teachers’ Association was founded in 1960 to promote and assist the teaching of mathematics at all levels. Membership is open to all those interested in mathematics and mathematics education. There are three categories of membership: full, honorary and associate. Persons not in full-time employment may opt for associate membership if they wish. The annual subscription for members is €20. Branches withhold 50% of the annual subscription, the remaining 50% is apportioned to the Council of IMTA.

Advantages of Membership

Branch meetings are held regularly to discuss topics of interest to practising mathematics teachers. Through lectures, courses, etc. members are helped to keep up to date in their own subject areas.Branch meetings also serve as a useful forum for discussing with colleagues, topics and problems encountered in their teaching.Members receive regular copies of the "Newsletter" which contain solutions to exam questions and articles on mathematical topics. As the Association is represented on all NCCA mathematics course committees, members, through their Branch meetings and syllabus committee representatives, have a direct input into syllabus revisions and curriculum changes.
